My feet were killing me by this point so I hung out by the pond and little while longer and took a few more shots of the tree and its leaves.

This is the "leaf" of a sea holly (I put leaf in quote because the leaf is really more fleshy and prickly than a normal leaf). I just like the texture of the whole thing, though it's easier to see in the original sized photo.

This is a banana native to Japan. Just like the other picture I really like the way this new leaf is all curled up waiting to grow the rest of the way out of the stalk.

I have a couple of banana trees growing in the yard. This is the Chinese banana native to the mountains somewhere in Southern China.
I liked the shape of the leaf, perfectly curled, coming out of the stalk.

According to the man who sold this, this is an as of yet un-named persicaria variety found growing up near Gig Harbor Washington. It is quite happy in the ground and I have this small fear that it will become invasive as it is growing like gang busters. It is supposed to die back at frost at I'm certainly hoping that happens.
Pink, white and green leaves? Crazy.
