Return of the California Poppies
Photo

I've been absent for almost a year, but I got a new toy and figured now that I had a real camera it'd be a shame to not upload some new photos.
Here is my first new photo, a great clear shot of a bright orange California poppy. Hope you like the flower as much as I do. |

While the other 2 pictures don't show the correct poppy color, this bright orange shows what most California poppies look like. There are other varieties, but the bright orange is by far the most common.
Besides the blooming flower you can see the pointed developing flower in a couple of places. When the flower is ready to emerge the green part starts to pop off and it looks like the flower is wearing a little green hat. I love to walk around and take off the hats to help the flowers along. |

This patch of poppies is about 6 feet wide, by about 5 feet tall. As you can see there are literally hundreds of flowers in this little area, and this sort of show has been going on for a couple weeks now.
I should also note that none of these poppies were planted, they are all volunteers. |

The California poppies were extra nice today so I took a lot of photos of them.
I hope that the abundance of California poppy photos I post can convey the love affair I have with this particular flower, because I know my camera phone CCD doesn't do the flower justice. In this shot you can see both blooming flowers and the long thin seed pods that form after the flowers die. |

A variety native to the northern North America this is a new plant this year for me. It's got this delightful little purple flower, and the plant is only about 5' tall.

Rose Colored California Poppies

A single rose colored California poppy flower. I'm hoping these will freely seed and appear in other places next year. I don't see why they won't as they grow like weeds around here.
